Hyderabad: YSRCP Women’s Wing President and MLC Varudu Kalyani expressed her strong concern over the alarming rise in crimes against women in the state under the TDP-led coalition government.
Speaking to the media in Vishakapatnam on Sunday, She questioned the presence of the government and Chief Minister, criticising their lack of response to the ongoing incidents of rapes, murders, and violent attacks on women under the TDP regime. She said the TDP coalition government has failed to protect women, pointing out that within four months of TDP's governance, safety measures for women had been neglected. She referenced the recent brutal murder of a girl in Badvel, stating that if the Disha app had been active, her life could have been saved. Kalyani demanded immediate implementation of the Disha initiatives, urging the state government to press the central government for its approval.
She further warned that if women's safety continues to be compromised, protests would erupt with the support of women and the public. Kalyani slammed the Home Minister and Deputy Chief Minister for remaining silent on these issues, despite previously claiming to prioritise women's safety. She highlighted multiple incidents, including the assault of women in the Home Minister’s own constituency and the disappearance of girls, emphasizing the government’s apathy.
Recalling the previous government's efforts, she mentioned the establishment of Disha app, specialised police stations, and women’s courts that had significantly contributed to women’s protection.
